4.0 out of 5 stars great value for home theater, August 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Soundcast SCS100 SurroundCast System (Electronics)
I purchased the soundcaster with some reservations but was pleasantly surprised after I hooked it up. The soundcaster will allow you to have wireless speakers to a point. You get a wireless connection between the included transmitter and receiver/50 watt amp. The speakers are then hooked to the soundcaster receiver with wire which can be another issue for your rear surround speakers especially if you want to wall mount them. The other concern is possible wifi interference on your home network. The claim by the manufacturer is that the soundcaster scans for an unused 2.4 Ghz channel automatically. While this may be the case, I did have have to spend quite a bit of time positioning the soundcaster transmitter and my network bridge to attain optimal network connectivity.
Overall, I am pleased with this product because it does work as advertised and it is about 1/4 the cost of the KEF system which has 2 receiver/amps. You have to make the decision if you want to hide speaker... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent solution if you don't use Audyssey, June 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Soundcast SCS100 SurroundCast System (Electronics)
I was a little skeptical given the unknown branding of this product. Here's my setup: Onkyo TX-NR708 receiver w/ Polk Audio Blackstone TL3's speakers. The wireless surround setup is fairly easy. It took me a while to get the sound level on the unit to my liking, but afterwards I was more than satisfied with the end result. This unit has produced reliable and convincing "wired" surround in a wireless application. WARNING: if you rely on your receiver's Audyssey function for sound callibration, this wireless function with NOT be compatible with Audyssey. In a nutshell, Audyssey is unable to judge the distance on a wireless speaker and thus your receiver via Audyssey cannot automatically adjust sound levels on wireless speakers. If don't rely on Audyssey and can live with this pitfall, then I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a quick wireless speaker solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more wires all around the room, May 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Soundcast SCS100 SurroundCast System (Electronics)
This is a great wireless transmitter if you do not want to run wires across the room, for whatever reasons.

Pros:

1. Very simple to setup. It comes with two wires for left and right connections from HT Receiver to the Soundcast transmitter. Just hook up the wires and power, and you're good to go.
2. The transmitter uses negligible power. The receiver uses more, as it has to output to speakers, but it goes on standby on inactivity. So that saves power.
3. Volume level is pre-set and works perfectly out-of-box. It has volume adjustments that it remembers, so if you do need to tweak volume levels, it should be one time thing.

Cons:
None

It's definitely better than performing in-wall wiring or running the wires across the room.

Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer (Single, Black) Description

Product Description

PSW111 is best matched for RM and SurroundBar series or compact speakers from other manufacturers. You can put it practically anywhere and you won't believe the punch such a small subwoofer packs. That's why cnet says "the deep bass was impressively deep for a sub as small as the PSW111." You can even play hide and seek with it. All woofers feature a floor coupled downward firing port. This configuration brings you maximum bass impact while keeping the front of the cabinet as low profile as possible. Polk home subwoofers are provided with CEA-2010 "Loud and Low" Spec. Instead of using the usual "inches and watts" method, we've leveled the playing field so you can easily and accurately compare the performance of different subwoofers measured the same way.

Amazon.com Product Description

Best matched for RM and SurroundBar series or compact speakers from other manufacturers, the Polk Audio PSW111 compact powered subwoofer features an 8-inch composite woofer that packs a punch larger than its size would suggest--delivering powerful, accurate and musical bass at an affordable price. It measures 12-1/8 x 11 x 13 inches (HxWxD) and it has a continuous power rating of 150 watts (with 300W dynamic power rating).

5.0 out of 5 stars great, December 4, 2008

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
After some deliberation, I decided to buy this on Amazon rather than a couple of Polk's 10-inch versions. I heard it at BB and thought it was very tight and controlled. I listen almost exclusively to music and just wanted something to fill in the lower registers. This sub complements well my new Yamaha nx-e400 bookshelf speakers (another under-recognized bargain!), which supposedly go down to 55hz on their own. I set the crossover to about 85 hz and turned the volume on the sub to almost halfway, and this combo fills my room with an almost perfect blend of bass, midrange, and treble. If you're just looking for solid bass to help your bookshelf speakers with music, this sub is terrific!

5.0 out of 5 stars Polk Audio PSW111, March 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
I researched subs online for a month, and then finally decided on Polk's PSW111. I have since owned the PSW111 for 2 months; and thus far it has been great, working perfecly with my 5.1 surround sound system. I use it every day for at least 8 hours, listening to music and playing Xbox 360 games.

The gun fire and explosians in Call of Duty 4 are made much more intense with the bass produced by the PSW111! I bought the PSW111 because my old Klipsch-sub burnt out, and I had to go with NO bass for 9 long months! ...When I finally hooked up the PSW111 and heard the bass, I was so throughlly pleased :D

The sub isn't magnetically shielded, so I have to keep it away from most of my other electronics; but that's not a problem - because most subs are not shielded. I spent $50 on a gold plated-6" Monster cable, kinda funny since the sub itself only cost $200.

I live in a small apt, and it fits perfecly. I have the bass set at 1/2 power, and it is perfect... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good choice for music lovers, February 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
I'm in the process of upgrading from an old Panasonic complete home theater package - the type you would find at Best Buy or Costco in the $300 to $500 range. I have a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver, 50" Panasonic Plasma TV and (so far) a pair of Polk Tsi200 bookshelf speakers. While I enjoy a lot of movie effects, my main interest is a system that works well on a broad range of music. Most of what I listen to is acoustic (folk, classical, jazz) with a lot of vocals and a smattering of rock.

With the addition of one Polk PSW111, it adds a nice low end to drums, string bass, and the larger brass family. On a Chieftans record, it really makes the bodhran (Irish goatskin drum) sound like you are at a live performance.

For me it works well for movie effects as well. By subwoofer standards, I describe it as tight without any booming or muddiness.

Now, if you want to make the neighbors think there is an earthquake, this isn't the sub for you. And if you want... Read more

Polk Audio Monitor Series PSW10 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Cherry) Description

Product Description

Do away with distortion. While the Polk Monitor Series PSW10's 10" driver and 50W built-in amplifier are filling out your home audio's bass tones, a wide variety of distortion-reducing technologies - including laser Klippel Distortion analysis - deliver bass true to the source.

Amazon.com Product Description

Give your movies and music the rich, powerful audio they deserve with the Polk Audio PSW10 powered subwoofer. Hailing from Polk's reborn Monitor series--which ushered in the modern loudspeaker era in the mid-1970s--the sub combines quality construction with high-end performance, all for a price that won't break the bank. The PSW10 is equipped with a 10-inch polymer-composite cone driver that creates tight, musical bass, along with state-of-the-art laser-based Klippel measurement technology to perfectly center the voice coil within the magnetic field. The Klippel technology improves the linearity of the frequencies to ensure a deep, precise sound for everything from action-movie explosions to cello musical passages.

Adding to the quality is the non-resonant medium-density fiberboard (MDF) enclosure, the 0.75-inch baffles, and the internal bracing, all of which contribute to the sub's superior detail, accuracy, and musicality. Meanwhile, the PSW10's built-in high-current amplifier (50 watts RMS, 100 watts dynamic) supplies all the power you need for big bass, while the adjustable low-pass crossover, phase switch, and volume control make it easy to blend your sub's output with your front and rear speakers. The sub even includes automatic signal-sensing circuitry, meaning it knows when to turn itself on and off.

Though the PSW10 will work with any speakers, the sub specifically designed to complement the clean, stylish look and robust sounds of Polk's entire Monitor speaker line. The cherry oak finish is particularly compelling, with a style that fits seamlessly with most modern furnishings.

Connectivity stems from the line- and speaker-level inputs, along with the unfiltered LFE input. The combined options make it easy to connect the PSW10 with any receiver or amplifier. And movie fans will delight in the magnetic shielding, which protects nearby TVs and video monitors from video distortion. Measuring 14 by 14.38 by 16.12 inches (WxHxD) and backed by a five-year warranty on the speaker and a three-year warranty on the internal amp, the PSW10 makes a great introduction to powerful home theater sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Polk PSW-10: Great, with some reservations, February 3, 2006
By
I purchased this subwoofer about 2 months ago and since then have given it an extensive listening test. Following is a list of things I would do to improve sound quality as well as some reservations I have toward it.

Before I start off, I would like to clarify one thing about the PSW-10 that might unjustly turn off potential buyers from it: it runs at 50 watts RMS. In the world of music and sound systems, one of the biggest misconceptions out there is that wattage directly correlates with how loud a speaker is. THIS IS NOT NECCESARILY TRUE! The efficiency of the driver determines how loud it gets at a certain wattage, not only the amount of power you're pumping into it! This is why you can buy, for example, computer speakers that boast 400watts of power and have them easily massacred in terms of volume by speaker set ups with half the power (for further examples, compare computer speaker systems to shelf systems to a true sound system. You will find the volume, at a... Read more

I'm using this with an Onkyo TR-606 alongside a Toshiba 62" DLP HDTV and a full set of Polk speakers, and the sound quality is remarkable.

The only caveat is that the subwoofer input has two connectors, but you really only need to connect one of them. The manual is far from clear about this, and plenty of people will probably spend extra on a Y cable, or worse yet, put in an adapter which will add both cost and loss of fidelity. But just connecting to the left input works fine. Subwoofers are mono anyway, and the double inputs are primarily there to make certain wiring configurations easier, not to add more sound fidelity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Polk Audio PSW10 Powered Subwoofer, June 1, 2007
While I was looking for sub-woofer I was comparing PSW10 and PSW404. PSW404 sounds better but for the price $110 vs. $250 at J&R I opted for PSW10. The sale representative dropped the price for me even though they still selling PSW10 for $200 here. Those of you who worry about no LFE input, that shouldn't be a problem. All you have to do is connect the sub-woofer output of the receiver to either the right or left input on the sub-woofer. And then set the variable low pass filter on the sub-woofer to the highest setting. This will set the internal low pass filter above the low pass filter frequency given by your receiver and create an LFE input. Or you may use a RCA cable to provide a connection to both inputs on the sub-woofer from the LR pre-out from the receiver. Then adjust the cross over frequency from the woofer as desired. It sounds a little louder and better for me. I bought Monster sub-woofer cable and it sounds no better than RCA cable. Try not to waste your money on this. It... Read more
